![]() ![]() SCALE One major advantage of devices such as the Sotera's ViSi Mobile cuffless monitor is its size - not much larger than a watch, if fits over the wrist and thumb. ![]() Less invasive, error-prone methods such as the cuffless blood pressure monitor are worth investigating. The blood pressure cuff also relies on a proper cuff size for the patient, appropriate placement on the arm and the cooperation of the patient. It is a technique that is not as accurate as an indwelling arterial line, which must be placed surgically, and thus is not practical for outpatient settings. NEED The traditional blood pressure cuff measures blood pressure by external pressure to the point of occlusion of an artery (usually the brachial). Unlike other cuffless systems, this design compares well with invasive monitoring systems such as indwelling arterial lines (which must be placed surgically) measuring blood pressure to within 5mmHg. The device combines BP monitoring with other vital signs (heart reate, blood oxygen and EKG), however the continuous cuffless blood pressure technology is the major breakthrough technology discussed here. Continuous blood pressure data is transmitted wirelessly to both desktop and mobile devices. These sensors are connected to the ViSi Mobile, which is worn on the wrist. The device uses a sensor around the thumb and another placed on the chest to calculate blood pressure based on pulse arrival time. SUMMARY The ViSi Mobile continuous, non-invasive blood pressure (cNIBP) monitor is a device which enables health care providers to remotely monitor a patient's blood pressure over time. ![]()
